Don Julio 70 Cristalino Tequila: An Overview

If you haven’t heard of Don Julio 70 Cristalino Tequila, let’s dive into what makes it so unique and perfect for a skinny, spicy margarita.

Origins of Don Julio

Don Julio Tequila is a premium brand of tequila crafted in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, founded by Don Julio González in 1942.

He dedicated himself to creating the finest tequila by planting agave crops further apart, allowing better access to sunlight and nutrients. Over the years, this commitment to quality has earned Don Julio worldwide recognition as a top-quality tequila producer.

Tequila Ingredients

The key ingredient of any tequila is the blue agave plant.

Rich, volcanic soil and the unique climate in Jalisco contribute to the exceptional flavor of Don Julio tequilas.

And the secret to Don Julio 70’s distinct taste comes from the best raw ingredients.  Every bottle includes 100% Blue Weber Agave, combined with quality production processes to achieve its distinctive character and smoothness.

Understanding Tequila Classifications

Before we delve further into Don Julio 70 Cristalino Tequila, let’s briefly touch on the various tequila classifications. Tequilas are generally categorized into four main types:

  • Blanco (silver or white): These tequilas are unaged or aged for a minimal period (less than two months). They are clear and exhibit the purest agave taste.
  • Reposado (rested): Aged for a minimum of two months but less than a year in oak barrels, reposados have a light gold hue and a balance between the flavors of agave and the barrel.
  • Añejo (aged): Matured between one to three years in oak barrels, añejos bear a darker hue and possess a more refined flavor profile due to the long aging process.
  • Extra Añejo (extra aged): With an aging process of more than three years in oak barrels, this tequila category offers a rich color, a velvety-smooth texture, and an impressive depth of flavors.

Don Julio 70 Cristalino Tequila, being an añejo tequila, sets itself apart due to its innovative filtration technique, which retains its rich flavors and aroma despite its colorless appearance.

This exceptional attribute makes it an ideal choice for crafting the perfect skinny spicy margarita, ensuring a novel and courageous drinking experience, thanks to the harmonious marriage of sophisticated añejo characteristics with the vivacity of a blanco tequila.

How Don Julio 70 Is Made

Don Julio 70 Cristalino Tequila, in particular, is an exceptional expression within the brand’s lineup.

It’s the world’s first clear añejo, undergoing an innovative filtration after maturing in American white oak barrels for 18 months. This process results in a colorless yet highly aromatic and flavorful tequila that combines the richness of an añejo with the light, bright character of a blanco tequila.

Here are the steps involved in creating Don Julio 70 Cristalino Tequila.

  1. Harvesting: The agave plants are carefully selected and then harvested when they have reached their peak in flavor and sugar content.
  2. Cooking: The agave hearts are cooked in traditional masonry ovens for 72 hours to soften their fibers and release natural sugars.
  3. Fermentation: The cooked agaves are milled, and their juices are fermented using a natural yeast strain from the agave plant.
  4. Distillation: The fermented liquid is distilled twice in copper pot stills to achieve the ideal alcohol content and maintain the integrity of the tequila’s distinctive flavors.
  5. Aging: The distilled tequila is aged 18 months in American white oak barrels, imparting complex flavors and a smooth, velvety texture.
  6. Filtration: The aged tequila then goes through a unique filtration process that removes its color while retaining its rich flavors and aroma, resulting in a crystalline, light, yet full-bodied tequila.

By choosing Don Julio 70 Cristalino Tequila for your skinny, spicy margarita, you’re ensuring a top-quality drink with an unparalleled taste that everyone will enjoy. Stay tuned for our mouth-watering recipe that brilliantly combines the premium spirit with carefully selected ingredients for the ultimate skinny, spicy margarita experience.

The Perfect Skinny Margarita with Don Julio 70

Now that we’ve introduced Don Julio 70 Cristalino Tequila, it’s time to learn how to create the ideal skinny margarita using this exquisite spirit.

What Makes a Margarita “Skinny”?

A “skinny” margarita is a lighter version of the classic cocktail, typically lower in calories and sugar content. This is achieved by using natural, low-calorie margarita mix and ingredients, eliminating unnecessary added sugars and syrups, and focusing on the quality and flavors of the base spirit.

Tequila is a naturally low-calorie alcohol, with Don Julio 70 coming in at just 97 calories for a 1.5 oz serving and 0 carbs. That’s right…..0 carbs!!! (Pause for celebration).

The Importance of Fresh Ingredients

Using fresh ingredients in a skinny margarita is crucial as they contribute to the lower calorie count and enhance the flavors of the cocktail.

Freshly squeezed lime juice, for example, adds a bright and zesty taste that complements the tequila without adding any artificial flavors or sugar-laden components.

Additionally, fresh jalapeño slices bring the heat and a touch of natural spice to the margarita, which perfectly balances the sweetness.

Balancing Spice and Flavor

To achieve the perfect balance of spice and flavor, it’s important to consider the heat level and preferences of your guests.

The amount of jalapeño or other spicy ingredients can be adjusted according to your desired spice level. Add a small amount and taste as you mix to find the perfect blend. Remember, it’s always easier to add more spice than to take it away.

Choosing the Right Glassware

Presentation is essential to any cocktail, and choosing the right glassware can set the tone for your guests’ overall drinking experience.

Serving your skinny spicy margarita in a classic margarita glass or an old-fashioned glass rimmed with a mix of salt and chili powder adds a touch of elegance and emphasizes the balance of flavors in the drink.

Garnishing Your Skinny Margarita

Lastly, garnishing your skinny margarita enhances its presentation and adds an extra layer of flavor. A slice of fresh lime, a sprig of cilantro, or even a dehydrated jalapeño can accentuate the drinks’ flavors and create a more visually appealing cocktail.

With these factors in mind, you’re ready to create the perfect skinny spicy margarita using Don Julio 70 Cristalino Tequila. Follow our upcoming recipe for a crowd-pleasing cocktail that will impress your guests and elevate any occasion while keeping calories to a minimum.

Cheers!
